NAMSS Statement on Hosting 47^th Educational Conference in Florida  

 

Dear NAMSS Community, 

We understand & acknowledge that the location of the NAMSS 47^th Educational Conference and Exhibition in Orlando, Florida, is of great concern to some members of the NAMSS Community, given the current political climate and recent actions taken by the state.

NAMSS’s commitment to diversity and inclusion remain steadfast as part of NAMSS core values as we strive to ensure a truly inclusive, strong, and diverse organization for all Medical Services Professionals.  The NAMSS Board of Directors developed and adopted a Statement on Diversity and Inclusion which reflects our commitment to building an organization that appropriately reflects the diversity of the medical services profession. Irrespective of any individual conference location or venue, NAMSS will welcome and provide a safe space for all.

NAMSS conferences are planned and secured many years in advance, and political landscapes change quickly. NAMSS presently has a contractual obligation to host our conference in Orlando, FL this September. Removing ourselves from these commitments would have a significant impact on NAMSS’ financial resources and our ability to provide both valuable membership benefits and educational activities to our MSP community.

NAMSS understands that some members may need to make their own tough decisions related to attending this year’s national conference. These personal decisions regarding conference attendance may be based on a variety of factors including individual health and safety, personal values, financial and other considerations. NAMSS respects the individual choices of the members we serve and how our community chooses to participate in the Educational Conference and Exhibition.

For individuals who would like to participate in the conference but are choosing not to travel to Orlando, we have created a virtual registration option which provides access to aspects of the educational content available during this year’s conference.

On behalf of the NAMSS Board of Directors, DEI Task Force, and Conference Committee, we thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate these important issues that have an impact on all of us while simultaneously balancing the needs of our community and the future of our organization.
